Summer Groups at TOTS!

May 4, 2017

TOTS is excited to once again offer a variety of groups for youth 4-16 this Summer.  All groups will be run by a pediatric therapist, either a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist, and all groups will be small in size with a ratio of no more than 1 therapist to 4 youth as a maximum.  The groups will run for 8 week sessions in June and July.

The following are a listing of the group offerings:
  • Executive Function Groups:  Work on organizing, monitoring, initiating, and stopping behavioral responses to appropriately problem solve, attend, and execute school work and all activities of daily living.
  • Self Regulation Groups:  Work on controlling behavior.  Help children find strategies to improve attention, waiting, impulsiveness, communicating their needs, and interpreting the needs of others.
  • Yoga/Mindfulness:  Focuses on yoga movements, breath, mindfulness and sensory strategies to decrease anxiety and impulsive behaviors while increasing a quiet mind, body, and gratefulness.  Also helps to improve motor planning skills and body awareness.
  • Picky eater:  Work on decreasing anxiety related to being a picky eater; tolerating new foods and making friends with those who have similar challenges.
  • Handwriting:  Work on improving hand writing skills with correct letter formation and pencil grasp.  Will also work on age-appropriate written communication skills.
  • Social skills:  Work on developing age-appropriate social skills and making new friends.
  • Cooperative play:  Will use play-based activities to develop age-appropriate social skills including sharing and coping strategies for children 4-6 years of age.
